new to Florida

Hello Everyone....I am brand new to State of Florida as I just moved here from the Lone Star State of Texas...My son had relocated to Florida to be closer to his much loved girlfriend.. as with his job he can work from home. I had moved in with my son a year before we moved here..He travels alot and needed someone to take care of his home and animals while he was away and made me a offer I could not refuse. I have early retired which is great for me and love it ..I had to go back to work , as my husband had passed away at a very early age and was forced to go back  as one son was in college and another son that was only ten at the time..Which is the reason for me to be so out of shape as I did not have the time or money to take care of myself and now I'm paying for it. I am hopeing to have surgery very soon . .Have done all my requirements...got all my documents together..Dr Jawad office has it all now...I am taking medicine for high blood,high tryclerides,gout,gerd and just found out I am pre diabetic.Plus degenitive disc disase and arthritis. So you see I am falling apart at a early age of 60.

Welcome and Good luck. The lapband will help you loose the weight and might halt the breaking down in its track! I am glad you came down her. I had my hubby move down here from Texas because I wouldn't move their and we were definetly going to be together! Seems like Fla is the next best spot. Keep us posted on your progress!

Thanks Jen for repling so fast...I see yiou just had the lap band done..How are you doing with it? I'm waiting to get approved from bc/bs of Michigan, but I don't think I will because they are making me channge over to bc/bs of Florida and they don't cover the surgery..What part of Texas is your hubby from..I'm from Ft Worth...still have a son there...going back in April to go on a cruise with some old friends.. If I don't get approve I will most likely go to Mexico and have it done. There are several places I have been looking at.. I hope you atre losing the weight you want...I  envy you very much...thanks again for repling ..let me know how you are doing...  

Welcome to Florida!!!  I have lived here most all of my life and can't think of any place else that I had rather be.  Are you saying BC/BS of Michigan does not pay for WLS?  Why are you being made to change to BC/BS of Florida?  I guess I don't understand insurance..  Good luck with everything.  So, you are planning on the Lap Band?  I am going for the RNY!!!  I like sweets too much to push my luck with the band.  I am waiting for my insurance, Avmed/State of Florida to do whatever they are going to do.  My paperwork has just been submitted.  What is your BMI? Please let me hear from you, Lynne

Some BCBS of FL policies DO cover WLS surgery.   And, welcome to Florida!  =)

Here in FLA, people live to be in their 80's and 90s----so at 60, you are still a spring chicken!!!  

Welcome to beautiful Florida. Good luck luck on your surgery. I have BCBS of FLorida. Unfournately,my policey wouldn't cover WLS or any thing dealing with weight at all. But,as stated by another post,some BCBS policies DO cover it. Call your agent,or better yet,call BCBS yourself and have them check the policy for you.

Welcome,  My hubby and I have been here for almost 8 years from Colorado.  My RNY was paid for by BCBS Florida so it depends on the policy.  I was approved in 5 days after submitting.  Good luck.  Sandy

Carla, I think we talked about this awhile ago.  We lived in Parker and Elizabeth most of the 23 years we lived in CO.  Loved it so much.  I am thinking about going back in the next couple of years.  I work for DCF her in Florida and have less than 2 years until I can retire from them and plan on going back to work for a few more years in CO.  The wages here are sooooo low I need to build back up before I can offically retire with the government.  I am 55 now and need to make better money than what I get here.  We plan on keeping the house we have in Spring Hill and hubby will just go back and forth.  He is retired all ready, early, luck duck.  LOL.  Anyway,  We have been here for 8 years in Sept.  Our kids and grandkids still live in CO and we visit all the time.  My 4th grandchild is due in June so I will be taking time with my daughter than.  It is good to know that if I have problems I can get ahold of someone who knows what my new makeup is like and can give me advise.   Sandy
